The Hidden Costs Never Shown in a Headline Rate
Every fee that compounds on top of the 2.9% + 30c you originally signed up for.
Vendor-published figures (PayPal FX margin and the Stripe dispute fees called out below) link to the source. The dollar-band ranges for PCI fees, monthly minimums, statement fees, batch fees, and reserves are directional bands frequently quoted by acquirers, ISOs, and merchant-advisory firms; they are not figures from a single named published dataset. Treat them as a starting point for a contract conversation, not a verified industry average. Where a specific vendor publishes a fixed fee (Stripe instant payout 1%, PayPal Push-to-Bank, GoCardless caps, Authorize.Net $25/mo + 10c) the link points at the vendor's own pricing page.
The 2.9% + 30c on the front page is only the first layer. Real all-in cost stacks PCI fees ($10-$30/mo), monthly minimums, statement fees ($10-$30/mo), batch fees ($0.10-$0.30 per batch close), FX margin, dispute fees, reserves on high-risk verticals, and the non-refundable Stripe dispute receipt ($15) since 17 Jun 2025. For most merchants, the true effective rate is 50-150 basis points higher than the headline.
The hidden line items
